Annette Brooke (Liberal Democrat) Member of British Parliament

Annette Brooke is MP for Mid Dorset and Poole and has been since 2001. She was born in 1947.

Political Career

Before becoming an MP, Annette was a councillor for Poole Borough Council, where she held posts as the Deputy Leader, the Chair of Planning, Chair of Education and Mayor of Poole. Prior to her career in politics Annette was a tutor with the Open University for 19 years from 1971, and a teacher in colleges of further education and schools from 1974 to 1994.

She became an MP in 2001, is Chair of the Parliamentary Liberal Democrat Party and is a member of the Chairmen's Panel in Parliament. Annette was Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Children, Young People and Families before the 2010 General Election, a post she took up in February 2004 and was honoured with the title of Female MP of the Year in 2010 for her work on children and young people’s issues. Annette received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2013 for service to political and public life.

Education

She was educated at the London School of Economics and then at Cambridge University, where she graduated as a teacher.
