Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was born on the 9th of August 1962 in Völklingen. She has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Christian Democratic Union since 2011. She was a member of the Federal Council between 2000 and 2004 and is the Minister President of Saarland.

Political career

Between 1991 and 1998 she was a Principle Planning Officer of the CDU in Saarland. In 1999 she was the Personal Assistant of the Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. Subsequently, from 1999 to 2000, she was the parliamentary secretary of the CDU parliamentary group in the Federal Council of Saarland. Starting in 1999, she served as the chairman of the Women Union of the CDU in Saarland. In 1998 she was a member of the German Bundestag and from 2001, she was the Deputy Chairwoman of the Women Union. Between 2003 and 2011 she was the National Vice-Chairman of the CDU Saarland. Since 2010, she has been a member of the Presidium of the CDU Saarland and a member of the board of the CDU.

Moreover, she was a minister in different functions. Between 2000 and 2004 she was the Minister of the Interior and Sports of Saarland. From 2004 to 2007 she served as the Minister for Home Affairs, Family, Women and Sport. Subsequently, between 2007 and 2009, she was the Minister of Education, Family, Women and Culture. From 2007 to 2009 she was the Minister of Labour, Family, Prevention, Social and Sport. Since 10/08/2011 she has been the Prime Minister of Saarland and between 2011 to 09.05.2012 she served at the same time as the Minister of Justice of Saarland, responsible for the business fields of science, research and technology.

Education

Kramp-Karrenbauer graduated from German secondary school in 1982 with the Abitur (A-Level). Between 1982 and 1990 she studied law and political science at the Universities of Trier and Saarbrücken.
