Andrzej Smirnow (born 9th September 1938 in Warsaw) is a Polish politician and a university professor. He was elected to the Parliament in 2005 as a Member of Platforma Obywatelska (Polish Civic Party). He was also a Member of Parliament in 1991-1993, 1997-2001 and 2005-2007.

Political Career

Since 1980 he belongs to Solidarność (Solidarity), for 11 years chaired its at Warsaw University of Technology, several cadences belonged to the National Commission. He was a co-founder of Porozumienie Centrum (the Center Alliance), which Smirnow has left after he got the parliamentary mandate in 1991. Since 1998, belonged to the AWS Ruch Społeczny (Social Movement), and was the chairman of the Mazowieckie Provincial Board. Since 2002, belonged to Platforma Obywatelska (the Civic Platform). In 1998-2002 he was deputy to the regional council of Mazovian region. Smirnow held the mandate of a Member of Parliament of the first term (for the Solidarność), the third term (for the AWS) and the fifth term of office (for the Platforma Obywatelska). In the parliamentary elections in 2007, he was reelected from Platforma Obywatelska list for the fourth time (sixth term). At the moment he is a Non-Attached Member. In 2011 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

Education

He graduated from Stanisław Staszic's High School in Warsaw. In 1965 he graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology - Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and in 1974 received at this university PhD degree.
