From July 1991-June 1996 Dinges-Dierig was supervising and consulting 170 vocational high schools  for gifted students while working for the vocational department of the Ministry of Culture of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. She worked for ministry of education and cultural affairs  in the Federal State of Hesse as the ministry office manager from April 1999 to December 2000.  She equally worked as the Senator for Education and Sport in Hamburg from March 2007-May 2008. She was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from May 2008- March 2011. She' was involved in the sub-committee for audits, and budget, Health and Science committee.
