Alain Calmette (born November 30, 1957) is a member of the French National Assembly for the first constituency of Cantal, in central France. Calmette has held many positions within the French Socialist Party since joining it in 1993.
Political Career[edit]
Calmette joined the Socialist Party of France in 1993 and from 1996-2002 he served as the official Secretary for the Party in the Department of Cantal. In addition to working as the Secretary for the National Socialist Party, from 1995-2001 Calmette served as a Municipal Councillor in the city of Aurillac.
In 2001, Calmette became the First Deputy Mayor of Aurillac for Youth, Education and Sports as well as Community Adviser on Urban Policy and the Local Educational Project for the Aurillac Basin. He stayed Deputy Mayor until 2006, when he was elected Mayor of Aurillac.
In 2012, Calmette was elected to the French National Assembly for the first constituency of Cantal, remaining Mayor of Aurillac until 2013.
Education[edit]
Prior to beginning a career in politics, Calmette worked as a school teacher from 1977-88.
