Emiliano García Page Sánchez was born on 11th June 1968, in Toledo, Spain. He is a Spanish Senator and a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE).

Political Career

As a youth he joined the Socialist Youth and then became part of the PSOE. His first political office was as Socialist councilor in the City of Toledo from 1987 to 1993. From 1991 to 1993 he was Deputy Mayor under President Joaquín Sánchez Garrido. Meanwhile, he became increasingly important within the PSOE, was first a member of the Local Committee between 1987 and 1993. Later, he joined the Provincial Committee, in the period 1991-1995, and since 1991 the Regional Executive Committee. In 1997 he was elected Provincial Secretary of the PSOE. Furthermore, he has been Spokesperson of the Spanish Government, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Social Welfare and Director of Institutional Relations and Regional Vice President.

In the municipal elections of 2007, he was second with 43.35% of votes, achieving 11 of the possible 25 councilors. After signing a pact with two councilors of United Left Party (IU), he became Mayor of Toledo.

In the municipal elections of 2011 his candidacy was the most voted, obtaining a total of 20,025% of votes, winning the municipal elections and being the first socialist mayor to be reelected.

The Cortes of Castile-La Mancha, regarding the initiative of the Socialist Group, appointed him as regional Senator on 16 September 2011. On February 25th, 2012 he was elected with 95% of the votes Secretary General of the Socialist Party of Castilla la Mancha.

Education

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
