About Renault S.A.

Renault S.A. is a french automobile manufacturer, established in 1899. The company produces cars, and vans, in the past also produced tanks, buses and trucks. To the brand also belongs the Romanian Dacia and the South-Korean Renault Samsung Motors. Renault owns shares of 43,4% in Nissan, 25% in AvtoVAZ from Russia and 1,55% in Daimler AG. Renault is one of the biggest innovators and tries to produce sustainably and responsibly. In 2014 it has already sold around 2,6 million vehicles.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy

“Experience shows that bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and different cultures leads to the most innovative solutions.” - this sentence is by Carlos Ghosn (the Chairman and President of Renault). The statement clearly shows the vision and the goals of the company in the employment policy. Renault tries to protect the environment and minimize the negative results of their activities. Their activities are representing sustainability (reducing the use of CO2 and the environmental impact), while they also respect their employees and try to create the best work environment for them. Renault also sponsors many cultural and sport events and promotes their diversity policy through the Global Meeting each year. During the meeting, the company discusses the performance counts.

Employment Policy

The company has 121,807 employees all over the world, Renault is currently present in 128 countries on every continent. The workforce divided by area is the following: 54,6% in Europe (of which 39,9% in France), 25,6% in Euromed-Africa, 9,9% in North and South America and 9,9% in Asia. The diversity of the employees is really high, they hire workers from 112 countries. The percentage of female workers is 17,6%. while by age 60% of the employees are between the age 30 and 50. But the company also hires a big percentage (22%) employees over 50 and under 30 (18%).

Cultural Exchange Program

Renault also provides cross-cultural exchange programs for their employees, that means they can change countries in the Renault Group and meet new cultures and learn new languages. The employees get full support from the company in form of planning of the stay, financial support, finding place taking care about the family. The advantage for Renault from the exchange program is that their workers get international experience and learn new techniques.

Grants And Scholarships

The Renault S.A. established a foundation called “Renault Foundation”, that helps the career of the young talents by offering grants for their studies at the universities, whom Renault cooperate with. The studies of the students are fully paid by the foundation. This foundation is now present in Spain, Argentina, France and Brasil.

Cooperation with Universities

Thanks to the cooperation of the “Renault Foundation” with universities in France young talented people can absolve their studies in many fields, that can help them in their future careers in the automobile industry. These programs are the following: Mobility and Electrical Vehicles Master, Transport and Sustainable Development Master, Electric Vehicle Management and Electro-Mobility Vocational Degree, Road Safety Management Master and MBA in International Management. Renault Foundation cooperates with universities in Lille, Nantes, Paris and Beirut (Lebanon), all together with 21 universities.

Notable Activities

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights

Renault is a Member of the United Nations Global Compact, that defines the rules of hiring employees. The company´s ethic code is defined on the basis of this compact, such as respecting the human rights of their workers. The company created a system of ethics at the workplace, that is defined in the Code of Ethics of Renault. This code protects the shareholders, customers and employees of the Group. The Code is public, so it is available for anybody.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid

“Renault Foundation” is a huge sponsor of projects in the field of humanity. At the moment Renault has several running projects. In Brasil Renault offers free classes for pupils between the age 6 to 10 to understand the road signs and later also driving classes by an electric mini-Clio with the top speed of 6 km/H. Renault runs a project called “Taking Control of our Destiny” in Colombia against the violation of girls/women. In South Africa the company focuses on education for females.

Supporting Music and Visual Arts

The corporation has its own art collection from works of Vasarely, Arman, Tinguely and Dubuffet from the period between 1967 and 1985. This art collection is public. Renault also sponsors the Louvre in Paris, mainly the Department of Islamic Arts, as well as the Affordable Art Fair in London´s Battersea Park, that is an exhibition of modern art works. An other important cooperation is between the Edingburgh International Festival and Renault, which is a sightseeing festival through the beautiful Scottish capital. Similarly, a Renault Garden was put in place in Chelsea (London), where the company presents each year its sustainable, innovative and environment friendly vehicles in the form of a festival.

Supporting Films Industry

Renault has been the partner of the Cannes Film Festival for 25 years. The love between Renault and the Film Indsutry started back in the year of the foundation of the company (in 1899), when the first model of Renault appeared in a movie. Since then the company is a sponsor of many events and institutes in the field of Cinema: London Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival , London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

Supporting Sports

Renault is part of the most popular motorsport Formula-1 since 1976. The company had a whole independent team in the sport and hired legendary drivers such as Michael Schumacher , Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. Renault’s team had 85 Grand Prix victories and 6 championship titles since it became part of Formula-1. After a short break the Renault returned into Formula in 2001 and won the championship with Fernando Alonso. At the present time, Renault does not have its own team at the Formula-1, but is the engine supplier of Red Bull, Lotus and Caterham. Renault is also sponsor of the Port Adelaide Football Club, as well Club Nacional de Football.
