Apostolos Alexopoulos
Apostolos Alexopoulos [Greek: Απόστολος Αλεξόπουλος, born on 23rd April 1952 in Tropaia, Arcadia] is a Greek politician, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of the University of Athens and Head of the Laboratory of Tectonics and Geological Mapping at the same Faculty.
Political Career[edit]
He has been active, alongside Manolis Glezos, within the movement of ‘Active Citizens’, one of SYRIZA's components. Apostolos Alexopoulos was elected as a member of the Hellenic Parliament with the SYRIZA Party, representing the second Electorate Prefecture of Athens. He currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Cultural and Educational Affairs and the Standing Committee on Production and Trade.

He received his Bachelor's Degree in Geology at the University of Athens in 1976 and after completing his military service (1978) he worked in the Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC) in the study and construction of hydroelectric dams (December 1978 – January 1980); he then worked for the Ministry of Agriculture on hydro-geological studies, slope stability management, and hydro-geological projects (December 1980 – March 1982). In 1982 he was hired as a research assistant at the Laboratory of Geology and Paleontology of the University of Athens. He received his PhD. in Geological Sciences at the University of Athens in 1990. He was appointed Lecturer at the Faculty of Geology of the University of Athens in 1991; Assistant Professor in 1996 and Associate Professor in 2001 (currently holds this position). His research interests mainly focus on Hydro-geology, Management of Water Resources and Environmental Protection. His scientific work includes sixty-four papers in Greek and international peer-reviewed journals, numerous lecture notes for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Geology of the University of Athens, and the Department for Mineral Resources Engineering of the Technical University of Crete. He has participated in fifty research projects of hydro-geological or geological interest or interests directly related to Dynamics, Tectonics and Applied Geology, some of which performed in collaboration with the Technical University of Crete, the University of Crete and the University of Patras. He is an expert PC user and user of various software packages related to Hydrogeology (models, pumpings, hudrogeochemistry, etc.), Engineering Geology, Structural Geology and Tectonics and Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.).
