Defined as the right to vote in democracy processes. The term is usually a term applied to the right to vote for representatives in elections and on referendum topics. Citizens are usually eligible to vote after reaching a certain age, in most countries this is the age of eighteen. In most democracies suffrage is considered universal, however restrictions have existed based on sex, race, religion, age and financial status.
