Magdalena Antoinette Maria Barth was born on the 21th of March 1964 in Den Helder, the Netherlands. She is a member of the Dutch Senate on behalf of the Labour Party (PvdA), a unionist and a former journalist.

She worked as a parliamentary reporter for newspaper Trouw (1990-1997), was a member of the House of Representatives (1998-2002) and a member of the States-Provincial of North Holland (2003-2004). She was party leader for the Labour Party in the Dutch Senate election of 2011. Since June 7, 2011 she has been a member of the Senate as well as the Senate group leader of the Labour Party.

Education

Barth studied Political Science at the University of Amsterdam from 1983 till 1989.
