Vesna Medenica, born on July, 17th, 1957. She undertook a long lasting academic and political career and is the laureate of the Memorial medal of the Association of Supporters of National-Liberation struggle and Anti-fascists of Montenegro.


Political Career

Vesna Medenica started her career as legal adviser in the Basic Court in Kolašin before being appointed judge for the same court in 1982, then Basic State Prosecutor in Kolašin in 1986. In 1993 she started serving as Deputy of the High State Prosecutor in Podgorica. In 2001 she was appointed Judge in the High Court in Podgorica by the Parliament of Montenegro and served as Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro between 2003 and 2007. In the capacity of the Supreme State Prosecutor, she established international cooperation with Prosecutions in the region, by signing numerous bilateral agreements: Agreement on Cooperation with the State Prosecution of Croatia, Agreement on Transfer of Evidences in the Cases of War Crimes, as the first agreement of this type in the Balkan area, with the Public Prosecution of Serbia, Prosecution for War Crimes of Serbia, Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Public Prosecution of Macedonia, Prosecution of the Republic of Albania, General Prosecution of Russian Federation and General Prosecution of Ukraine. Vesna Medenica then served as President of the South Eastern European Group of Prosecutors (SEEPAG) from 2004 until 2007), Observer in the European Network of the Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ), Active member of the Association for Criminal Law and Policy of Montenegro, President of the Board for South Region for the Reform of Juvenile Judiciary, President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro from 2007 and President of the Judicial Council. She also participated in the Save the children Project, and serves as President of the National Ski Federation and is Member of the Executive Board of Montenegrin Olympic Committee and President of the Commission for the election of the athletes.

Education

Vesna Medenica graduated from the Law Faculty in Podgorica and the Univeristy of Montenegro, in 1980 and completed her apprenticeship in the Basic Court of Kolašin. She passed the Bar exam in Belgrade, in 1981 and studied Human Trafficking at the American University Johns Hopkins, in Washington DC, USA.
