Brezhnev, Leonid (December 19, 1906 - November 10, 1982)[edit]
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, presiding over the country from 1964 until his death. The Soviet Union’s global influence grew dramatically during the 18 years he was in power, but his grip on power has often been described as the cause for the era of economic stagnation that began during his presidency, in which serious problems were overlooked, eventually leading to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
