About Anglo American plc
Anglo American plc is the world´s largest platinum producer and one of the leading mining companies. It has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom, but was founded in Johannesburg in 1917. In 1999 Anglo American merged with Minorco and they formed Anglo American plc. It produces not only platinum, but also copper, zinc, diamonds, iron ore and etc. The company has 3 main activities: exploring; mining and processing; technology development. Anglo American spent 200 million dollars last year on an exploration for natural resources in 18 countries. The technology development means, that the company is conducting research and involving technology to make their activities more effective.
Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy
Anglo American is involved in cultural diplomacy, as their vision and strategy is to provide activities to all of the stakeholders, including (community, shareholders, employees). The company´s goal is to minimize the negative impact of their operations on the environment and the community.
Employment Policy
The company is present all over the world on every continent. It has facilities in more, than 20 countries, including Canada, South Africa, Australia, Luxembourg, England, China, Mongolia, Brazil or Chile. The company also has female workers, 16% of the total employees is female, while in the Board of Directors this number is 23%. Female workers of the mines get full support, they have flexible work hours, child care facilities and training. The company hires mainly the nationalities of the countries, where they operate, but still there are a lot of international workers.
Education
International Internship Program
The company provides the opportunity to attend internships at any locations, where the company operates. These internships are available for all students and graduates. During the mobility they are totally supported, financially, by housing. They also get training to improve their skills. It is represented by the Student Technical Experience Programme in Europe and Graduate Development Programme in South Africa. All the students and graduates get financial support from Anglo American when participating in an internship.
Cooperation with universities
There was a program developed by the cooperation between Anglo American and the University of Queensland. This program is called “Safety Risk Management Program”, that is offered by a network of universities through South Africa, United Kingdom, Chile and Brazil.

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights
Anglo American is member of the UN Global Impact, which means their ethic code is defined by the principles of the International Labour Organisation. The company does not tolerate child labour, forced labour, discrimination, unfairness, violence at workplace or harassment. In the company every worker is equal.
Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid
The company has its Chairman´ Fund, which is a foundation which spends money in order to help in fields including healthcare, education and society. Concerning education, it concentrates on Early Childhood Development; Maths, science and language development and Quality education for students with special needs. In the field of health they concentrate on the healthcare system of the WHO and preventing HIV/Aids through sponsoring national projects and programmes. Also companies and individuals can apply for sponsorship. In the field of society they concentrate on creating jobs and infrastructure. They also lend their support for children in Brazil as well as the fight against HIV and Aids in Africa.
Supporting Music and Visual Arts
The Chairman´s Fund also has projects in the field of Art and Music. De Beers is a project, that supports the development of youth through arts. RMB´s arts programme is specialised on the popularization of music, dance and arts through the community.
