Maurice Cummins is a lifelong member of the Fine Gael Party and is the current Leader of Seanad Éireann. He is also Seanad Spokesperson on Northern Ireland Affairs and a member of the Seanad Committee on Procedure and Privileges. Senator Cummins has been a member of Seanad Éireann since 2002 when he was elected on the Labour Panel, prior to which he was a member of Waterford City Council (1979-2003) where he held the office of Mayor from 1995-1996. During his public life to date Maurice has been a member of the European Committee of the Regions, the South East Regional Authority, the Association of City and County Councils, served as Vice President of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party and also served as acting as Chairman for a number of months following the 2011 General Election. Senator Cummins is also the only Senator currently serving on the Fine Gael National Executive.
