Before representing Sinn Fein he was a member of the Labour Party but was unable to win a seat on Galway County Council at the 2004 local elections. During his political career he has been a leading critic of the government for its infrastructural and industrial neglect of the west.
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh began his career in politics as a member of the Labour Party. He stood in the local elections of the Galway County Council in 2004, but was not elected. Trevor is a major critic of the government due to its supposed failure to protect and maintain the Irish language. He has also been the project manager of national Irish language newspaper, Gaelsceal. O Clochartaigh also takes an active interest in agricultural issues. He is responsible for forming the 'Defending Rural Ireland' campaign along with Martin Ferris.
