Tuur Elzinga (SP) Member of the Dutch Senate

Arthur (Tuur) Elzinga (born on December 12th, 1969 in Den Burg) is a member of the Dutch Senate for the Socialist Party (SP). He has been a senator for the SP in the Netherlands since June 2007. In the Senate he is the SP's spokesperson on Social Affairs and Labour related issues. In the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe he speaks on behalf of the Unified European Left on Economic Affairs and he chairs the Sub-Committee on International Economic Relations.

Political Career

Tuur Elzinga has been the Policy Advisor FNV Mondiaal (Solidarity Support Organisation of FNV) since June 2007. From October 2003 until June 2007 he was co-ordinator of the “XminusY” Solidarity Fund. From November 2002 until October 2003 Elzinga was the Policy Officer FNV (Dutch Trade Union Confederation). And from June 1998 until November 2002, he was the Policy Officer Social Affairs and Labour/Employment of the parliamentary group of the SP in the Dutch House of Representatives.

Elzinga has been the chair of the Sub-Committee on International Economic Relations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since January 2010. He has also been a member of the Committee of Economic Affairs and Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since November 2007. Since June 2007 Tuur has been a member of the Senate (Committees on Social Affairs, Employment, Economic Affairs, Financial Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation). Furthermore, Tuur Elzinga was a member of the National Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of the Netherlands from June 2003 until May 2005.

Tuur Elzinga studied for a master's degree in Political Science (comparative political economy) at the University of Amsterdam from 1993 until 1998, this was uncompleted. From 1988 until 1989 he did a introductory diploma of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Amsterdam.
