Werner Amon was a student representative and an Austrian Federal Head Boy in his school days. From 1993 to 2001 he was chairman of the youth ÖVP. He is a member of the Federal Executive of the ÖVP and was from 2003 to 2009 Secretary of ÖAAB. He was commissioner of the Austrian People's Party and served until 2007 as an educational spokesperson for the ÖVP, then as a social speaker, and he has been working as education spokesman for the Austrian People's Party since 2008.

He attended the course for Intercultural Learning at Thames Valley University in London and the University course for advertising and marketing at the Vienna University of Economics. He obtained a Bachelor degree in advertising and marketing. In 2003 he completed an Executive MBA at the University IMADEC in Vienna with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
