Editing Kate Green

Kate Green (born 2 May 1960) in a British Labour Party politician and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stretford and Urmston since 2010 and is the current Shadow Spokesperson for Disabled People. She has also been elected as a Vice-Chair of the Labour Party's National Policy Forum and serves as the chairman of the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party.  

After graduating Green worked at Barclays Bank from 1982-1997 and then moved on to work as a Whitehall and Industry Group secondee to the Home Office from 1997-1999. From 2000-2004 she was Director of the National Council for One Parent Families (now called Gingerbread). As a long standing campaigner against poverty and inequality, she then worked as Chief Executive of the Child Poverty Action Group until 2009. She also serves as a member of the London Child Poverty Commission and chairs the all-party parliamentary group on poverty, and serves as a member of the Greater Manchester Poverty Commission.  

In October 2011 Green was promoted to shadow Minister of State for Equalities at the Government Equalities Office and in October 2013 was promoted to shadow Minister of State for Work and Pensions.  

Kate also served as a magistrate for 16 years, and takes a particular interest in the experience of women in the penal system, and how best to rehabilitate them to prevent reoffending.
