William Douglas Cullen, Knight Companion of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh was born on 18th November 1935.

Political Career[edit]

Lord Cullen of Whitekirk joined the Lords in 2003. In 2013 he was appointed Chairman of the Partnership Prosecution Bill, Special Public Bill Committee. Since 2013 he is member of the Constitution Committee. He is one of the senior members of the Scottish judiciary. He served as Lord Justice General and Lord President of the Court of Session from 2001 to 2005. In 2003, Douglas Cullen was created a Life Peer, as Baron Cullen of Whitekirk, East Lothian. He sits as a crossbench member of the House of Lords.

Education[edit]

William Douglas Cullen studied at the High School of Dundee, at the University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh. In 1960 he was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates. From 1970 to 1973 he was Standing Junior Counsel to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1973 and served as an Advocate Depute from 1978 to 1981. In 2009, he was formally installed as Chancellor of the University of Abertay Dundee.
