Thomas Gebhart

Thomas Gebhart, born December 20, 1971 in Kandel, is a German politician of the CDU. He has been a member of the German Parliament since 2009.

Political Career[edit]

In 1989 Gebhart joined the Junge Union, he became a member of the CDU in 1996. In 1999 he became a member of the district of Germersheim and in 2002 Chairman of the CDU district association Germersheim. From 2003 to 2009, Gebhart was a member of the Rheinland-Pfalz state parliament and the Upper Rhine Council. He was directly elected representative of the constituency Germersheim and environmental policy spokesman of the CDU faction in the parliament . In November 2007 he was elected deputy chairman of the CDU District Association Rheinhessen - Pfalz.

In the 2009 federal election he became a member of the German Parliament. He is a full member of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety Building, secretary and deputy member of the Budget Committee since the general election . He is also a member of the Anglo-German and German - Swiss Parliamentary Group and Parliamentary Friends of Berlin - Taipei. For the Union Group Gebhart is rapporteur for circular economy and resource efficiency as well as co-rapporteur for climate protection .

Education[edit]

After graduating from the Europa -Gymnasium Wörth 1991 Gebhart did his community service at St. Vincent Hospital from Karlsruhe. In 1992 he started his studies in Business Administration and Political Science in Mannheim and he completed his PhD in Birmingham. In 1998 he became assistant of parliament member Heiner Geissler. From 2002 to 2003 he was an employee of BASF.
