Paul Coghlan was born on June 1st, 1944 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.

Political Career[edit]

Paul Coghlan is an Irish Fine Gael politician and member of Seanad Éirann since September 1997.

He is the Government Chief Whip in the Seanad and Fine Gael Seanad spokesperson on Defence.

In 1997, Paul was elected to the 21st Seanad by the Industrial and Commercial Panel and re-elected in 2002 to the 22nd Seanad, where he was Fine Gael spokesperson on Employment, Trade and Enterprise. He was re-elected in 2007 to the 23rd Seanad, again by the Industrial and Commercial Panel.

Coghlan was educated as an Auctioneer and Valuer.

Paul Coghlan was a founding director of Radio Kerry and he was a former Chairman of Muckross House. He is a member of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland, the Life Assurance Association and the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers.

Previously, he was a member of Kerry County Council, Killarney Town Council and the Dingle Harbour Commissioners. He was also a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly as well as the committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.
