Johannes Remmel

Johannes Remmel, born May 25, 1962 in Siegen, is a German politician of the Alliance 90 / The Greens and member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. His main interests are in the field of environmental and consumer protection. Since 15 July 2010, he has been Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia (Cabinet Power I, II Cabinet force).

Political Career[edit]

From 1987 to 1988 he was a member of the board of the Green City Association. From 1991 to 1993 he was Speaker of the District Association Siegen-Wittgenstein.

From 1988 to 1995 he was Group Managing Director of the Greens in the city of Siegen Council. Here he held the chair of the local environmental committee.

In the state elections of 1995 Remmel was elected to the state parliament. Until 2000, he was tourism spokesman for the Green Party. From 1997, he served additionally as environmental spokesperson and from 1999 until the state election in 2000, as a financial spokesman. From 1997 to 2000 he was also chairman of the parliament-Enquete Commission "Future of Mobility".

In the state elections in 2000 Remmel was reelected. Since then, he has been parliamentary secretary of the Green parliamentary.

He was re-elected again in the 2005 election. Here he continued his activities as a parliamentary manager and was environmental and consumer protection policy spokesman of his group. In this role, he was a member of the Environment Committee of the Parliament.

In the state elections in 2010 Remmel was again re-elected. Since 15th July 2010, he has been Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia.


Education[edit]

After graduating from the Gymnasium at Löhrtor, Remmel began a teaching degree in the subjects of History, Catholic Theology and Sport at the University of Siegen, earning a college degree. From 1987 to 1988 he was chairman of the student committee (student council) at the University.
