Gom van Strien

Gom van Strien was born on the 10th of June 1951 in Geertruidenberg. He is a member of the Dutch Senate for the Party for Freedom (PVV) since 2011. Since 2012 he is vice-chairman of the Senate.

Political career[edit]

Before his political career, van Strien worked for Statistics Netherlands, which is a Dutch governmental institution that gathers statistical information about the Netherlands. From 1986 to 1987 he was the secretary of the Board of Directors for Rijkswaterstaat in The Hague (Den Haag). Rijkswaterstaat is responsible for the practical execution of the public works and water management, including the construction and maintenance of waterways and roads, and -importantly- flood protection and prevention. From 1987 to 1990 he was the secretary and from 1990 to 2002 the director of the Faculty of vetinary medicine of the University of Utrecht. Between 2002 and 2011 he was general director for consecutively 'Stichting Incubator Utrecht', 'UMC Utrecht Holding B.V.', 'Universiteit Utrecht Holding B.V. and 'Trekhaakcentrum.nl'.

Education[edit]

Van Strien studied Physics at the University of Nijmegen between 1970 and 1976. He also Business Administration at the University of Twente between 1976 and 1978.

Interesting facts[edit]

In 2009, van Strien became a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. This order is a chivalric order open to everyone who has earned special merits for society.
