Emilio Álvarez Villazán

Emilio Álvarez Villazán, born 21 July 1952 in Castil de Vela in the Spanish province of Palencia, Castilla y León, is a Spanish senator for the province of Valladolid, Castilla y León, for the 10th Congress of Deputies. Álvarez Villazán is a member of Spanish Socialist Party, Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE).


Political Career[edit]

Álvarez Villazán started his political career as a member of the Council of Tordesillas in 1983. He held that position until 1991 when he was elected mayor of Tordesillas for the Socialist Party. In 1995, Álvarez Villazán was reelected as a member of the Council and he was again elected mayor from 2003 to 2007. From 1987 to 1991 and from 1999 to 2007, he was an MP for the Spanish province of Valladolid. He was also a member of the State Board of Education from 2003 to 2007 and a memeber of the School Council of Castilla y León from 2003 to 2007. From 2003 to 2007 he also held the position of Vice-President of the Education Commission within the Federal Executive Committee of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

Furthermore, within the Spanish Senate, Álvarez Villazán is the Second Vice-President of the Comission of Defense. He isalso the spokesman of Sports in the Committee of Education and Sports. He is also a vocal in the joint commission of Committees of Interior, Education and Sport and in the Commission of Industry, Energy and Tourism. Finally, Álvarez Villazán is a vocal in the joint Committee of Relations with the Ombudsman.


Education[edit]

Álvarez Villazán has a BA in Romance Philology. He is a professor of Secondary Education in Spanish Language and Literature.
