Edward M Turay is a barrister and politician who has held a number of prominent political positions in Sierra Leone, he is currently Sierra Leone's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Education and Political Career[edit]

Edward Turay is a Barrister by profession, he studied in England and was called to the bar in 1976. He then practised in Jamaica for a time before returning to Sierra Leone in 1979 and serving as a Magistrate for three years. In 1982 Edward Turey joined politics, he won a seat as a member of parliament for the Bombali Central one Constituency in 1986, he held the seat until 2010. During this period Turay also served as the Secretary General of the ruling APC party. He contested the Presidency in 1996 but after defeat he was the Minority Leader of the House of Parliament from 1996 to 2002. In 2007 he was appointed the Leader of the Majority Party in Parliament and the leader of the Government Business. Turay has served as Sierra Leone's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland since January 2010, in this role he is also accredited to eight other states - Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Greece.

Notable Work[edit]

Turay has served on almost all Parliamentary Committees and was the Chairman of the Judicial Committee for over ten years. He is the Founder and Consultant at Eddie Turay and Associates which is a leading law firm in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
