Athanasios Bouras

Athanasios Bouras was born in 1947. He is a Greek politician and Physicist.

Political Career[edit]

He was elected MP for the Attica Constituency with the New Democracy political party in the 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009 general elections. Following this he served as Head of the Employment and Social Welfare Domain of New Democracy for the period 2000-2007 whilst, at the same time, serving as Member of the Parliament Committee on Social Affairs (2000-2007). In 2000, he was elected Member of the Parliamentary Domain of Education for New Democracy, a position which he held until 2009. In addition he served as Chairman of the Hellenic-Argentinean parliamentary collaboration (2004-2009) and Chairman of the Parliament Committee on Economic Affairs (2007-2009). Moreover he served as a Member of the Parliament Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice (2004-2007) and Member of the Special Committee on Constituencies (2003-2007).

Education Career[edit]

He is graduate from the Department of Physics at the University of Athens. He completed his M.Sc. in Meteorology and an M.Sc. in Radio-electronics. He also has a Degree in Pedagogical Studies and Ph.D. in Physics from University of Athens. He speaks English.

Notable Work[edit]

Athanasios Bouras has served as Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, with particular responsibility in investment and growth issues, since January 2009. He was elected Prefect of Evia (1989-1990) and Prefect of Western Attica (1990-1993). He worked as a Faculty Member at the University of Athens from 1973 to 1979 and then as Professor in the General Department of Physics – Chemistry and Material Technology of the Technical Educational Institute of Athens until 1989. Finally he served as Vice-chairman of TEI Athens until 1989. He has been a Member of the Nea Demokratia Central Committee and an active political member of the Nea Demokratia party since 1974.
