Political Career[edit]

Lithuania’s struggle for independence and the economic blockade that the Soviet Union implemented in Lithuania led Liauškiené to join the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. From 1995 to 1998 Liauškiené served as the government’s international relations advisor, she then progressed to the position of Ambassador to France, serving from 1998 to 2003; she was one of the youngest ambassadors at the time. From 2006 to 2009 Liauškiené served as the Ambassador to Israel; during her tenure she strived for Lithuanian membership of NATO and the EU. Prior to her position as Ambassador of Lithuania to the United Kingdom, Liauškiené worked as Lithuania’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for three years, working with 140 countries.
