Asimina Xirotyri - Aikaterinari

Asimina Xirotyri-Aikateriniari was born in Fthiotida in 1947. She is a Greek politician and civil engineer.

Political Career[edit]

As a student, she joined KKE Interior, EAR (Greek Left) and later Sinaspismos. She is now a member of the Democratic Left. She was elected to the Prefecture of Thessaloniki in 1990. From this position, she was able to promote solutions to significant regional problems. As head of the DIM.O.S’ party, she was elected Regional Councillor of Central Macedonia through the regional elections of 2010.

In the national elections of 2000 and 2004, she was elected both times as a Member of Parliament by the first constituency of Thessaloniki, and was affiliated with the political party of Sinaspismos. Throughout this eight-year period, she took a hands on approach to politics, especially in the fields of Development, Environment & Public Works, Agricultural Policy and Energy. She was among the five most active MPs and ranked first in the field of Environment. As member of the Democratic Left party, she was re-elected MP through the national elections held in May 2012 and June 2012, respectively. She is currently responsible for issues related to the Ministry of Finance as well as the Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks. She is also co-responsible for the fields of Environment and Energy.

Education Career[edit]

She studied Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She completed her postgraduate studies in France and obtained her PhD from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She speaks French and English.
