Anna-Misel Asimakopoulou

Anna-Misel Asimakopoulou (Greek: Άννα- Μισέλ Ασημακοπούλου, born in 1967 in New York) is a Greek politician, economist and attorney-at-law. She was appointed to the post of spokeswoman of the New Democracy Party on 17th April 2014.

Political Career[edit]

She is an elected MP (New Democracy Party) in the electoral district of the Prefecture of Ioannina in the national elections of June 2012 and is the spokeswoman of the party. She is the only woman ever elected MP for the electoral district of the Prefecture of Ioannina.

She has been an elected member of the Municipal Council of the city of Ioannina since 2007, and the Deputy Mayor of Ioannina, responsible for European Programmes in 2010. Anna Misel Asimakopoulou was also the Municipal Spokesperson of the Municipal Council of the city of Ioannina in 2008 and Vice-President of Municipal Regional Theatre of Ioannina (2007-2009). She has been a Member of the Financial Committee, the Quality of Life Committee and the Board of Directors of the Welfare Agency for Culture, Environment, Youth and Sports of the Municipality of Ioannina since 2011, and currently in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, in the Committee on the Financial Statement and the General Balance Sheet and on the implementation of the State Budget, in the Committee on European Affairs and in the Cross-Party Committee for the Claiming of German Remunerations.


Education[edit]

She studied Economics at Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia and at the London School of Economics. She completed her Juris Doctor in Law at Cornell University, New York, with a specialization in International Legal Affairs. She acquired further specialization at the University of Madrid and at the Institut d’ Etudes Francais d’ Avignon.
