Editing Viscount Brookeborough

Alan Henry Brooke was born on the 30th June 1952. He is currently one of the remaining 92 hereditary peers who remain in the House of Lords. 

== Political Career ==

Brooke replaced his father as the 3rd Viscount Brookeborough in 1987. However, due to the reforms brought in under Tony Blair he lost his automatic right to a seat in the House of Lords. He returned to the house in 1999 after being elected as a crossbench peer.

On 24th May 2011, he was chosen to represent the Queen, instead of The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, at the arrival of President Obama and his wife on their Official State Visit.  He had held the position of the Lord in Waiting to the Queen since 1997. 

In his career in parliament, Brooke has been a member of a number of sub-committees. His most recent role was on the EU Subcommittee A for Economic and Financial Affairs. In 2014, Brooke was appointed as a Knight of the Order of St John. 
 
== Education ==

Brookeborough was educated at Harrow School Millfield and the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester.
