Rosneft is a leading Russia-based petroleum company. The company’s main activities are exploration and production of hydrocarbons, production of petroleum products and petrochemicals, and marketing of outputs. The Company has 13 representative offices and one branch, located domestically and abroad, including the UAE and China, among others.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy

Rosneft is involved in cultural activities by supporting several music, visual art, sport and charitable activities. Some of these initiatives include organizing the Rosneft Ignites Stars Talent Festival, supporting the Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes exhibition and sponsoring the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014.

Employment Policy

Rosneft is one of the major employers in Russian Federation, securing jobs to about 222,000 people in all federal districts. The company considers its employees the most valuable resource of the business. Rosneft therefore aims to ensure a high motivation, employment of highly qualified personnel as well as providing a social security for employees. A development of a corporate culture ensuring long-term loyalty of employees towards the Company has also a high importance in HRM practices. However, company does not seem to have special policies to promote or encourage employee diversity.

Cultural Exchange Programs

The company offers its employees equal opportunities to continuously develop their abilities and skills. Amongst numerous development and training programs, Rosneft is in partnership with the Graduate School of Management at St. Petersburg State University, the Company delivers the Executive MBA training program. Its training modules suggest training at foreign business schools: the Duke Fuqua School of Business (USA) and the Norwegian Business School (Oslo, Norway). In addition to that in 2013 Rosneft contracted the I.M. Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas under the scheme on personnel training for offshore operations to develop the innovative program on award of an additional professional qualification “Marine Drill Supervisor” in partnership with Drillbert Engineering (USA) and practice at marine drilling facilities operated by Stena Drilling (Sweden) (Rosneft,2014).

Education

International Internship Program

Rosneft offers internship programs and various training as well as development programs mainly for Russian students and young professionals across the Russian Federation. Students with high academic performance are offered work placements and internships at the company.

Grants and Scholarships

In order to help future specialists Rosneft has a system of corporate and social scholarships. Through company’s cooperation with numerous Russian universities it assists different programs. For example, 330 students and 12 university teachers received corporate grants and stipends in 2010.

Notable Activities

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights

In its operations the Company adheres to business principles established by international organizations, including United Nations (Universal Declaration on Human Rights); International Labor Organization (Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and conventions ratified by the Russian Federation); Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises).(Rosneft, 2014)

The Company has also created the Code of Business Ethics. It sets out Rosneft’s values and mission and regulates employee conduct in situations involving ethical risk. The Code also regulates relations with customers and business partners, government authorities, competitors and the public. Apart of this, there was no any informational available with regards to special programs designed for human rights promotion.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid

In 2012, Rosneft spent a total of RUB 3.4 bln on charity activities; educational establishments, sports clubs, healthcare organizations, public and municipal organizations in different regions of Russia. Altogether Rosneft funded repairs, equipment construction and support of 114 kindergartens and preschool facilities, 84 cultural facilities and 82 sports facilities, 211 schools, 43 healthcare facilities and 49 churches in 2012.

Supporting Music and Visual Arts

With an intention to revive Russian cultural heritage Rosneft organizes concerts in several cities. Thus, the concert in Achinsk gave a unique opportunity for people from remote towns to get to know better famous representatives of Russian culture. Rosneft Ignites Stars, corporate talent festival has been held for the 4th time in 2014. Vocals, Choreography, Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles, Reflection and Specialty Genres are represented during the festival. Rosneft has supported Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes exhibition in Washington in 2013.

Supporting Sports

Every year Rosneft organizes the summer and winter Spartakiad- a multi-sport –based tournament. Company’s employees were actively involved in this event. Rosneft was also a national sponsor of Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014.
