The company is focused on finding, mining and processing mineral resources from the Earth. The company was founded in 1873, when they opened their first mine at the Rio Tinto river in Huelva, Spain. Rio Tinto is the supplier of resources for many industries, including automobile, communication or health care. The company supplies resources for companies, that with their products try to make life easier. It is a dual listed company, that consists from Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited, but the two companies are managed together. Supporting Sports

Rio Tinto has a Sport Innovation Challenge in cooperation with Imperial College of London, the innovation is meant to motivate engineers of the university to design sporting equipment for paralympic sportsmen. The Group was also the Gold Partner sponsor for the Mongolian National Olympic Team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The company also sponsors young sports at Olympic games.
