History

Representative of Pafos constituency under the banner of the Socialist Party EDEK (SK EDEK) 1981-1998, under the banner of the Social Democrats Movement (KISOS) 2001-2003, under the banner of KS EDEK 2003-2006 and representative of Nicosia constituency under the banner of KS EDEK since 2006. On 2 June 2011 he was elected President of the House of Representatives for the Tenth Term of Office of the House.

  • Editor and broadcaster at the Pafos Free Radio Station during the coup of 15 July 1974 (arrested and imprisoned by the coupists).
  • General Secretary and First Vice-president of SK EDEK.
  • Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus during Glafkos Clerides’ presidency (1998-1999).
  • President of KISOS/KS EDEK since 2001.
  • Member of the National Council, the supreme advisory body to the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem.
