Michèle André had been municipal and regional councillor for Clermont-Ferrand from 1983 to 2001. From 1988 to 1991, she was State Secretary for Women's rights, and from 2001 to 2004, Vice President of the General Council of Puy-de-Dome, responsible for culture and sport.
 
  
Michèle André is Vice-President of the Finance Commission and Regional Councillor for Puy-de-Dôme. She is also Vice-President of the French Section of the Parliamentarian Assembly for Francophone Countries.
