Maria Gabriela da Silveira Ferreira Canavilhas was born on March 29th, 1961. She currently practices as a Portuguese Parliamentarian at the National Assembly although she is a Professor at Lisbon´s National Conservatory.

Political Career

She is a deputy at the Portuguese National Assembly elected by the circle of Braga through the Socialist Party. She was Minister for Culture between 2009 and 2011, Culture Regional Director of the X Azores Regional Government and Member of governning board for Luso-American Development. Presently, she is effetive at the Parliamentary Commission of International Affairs and Portuguese Communities and as alternate to the Education, Science and Culture Commission.

Education

Maria Gabriela Canavilhas holds a Degree in Musical Sciences by the Nova University of Lisbon and in Piano by the National Conservatory.
