Fernandez-Fernandez Julie

Julie Fernandez-Fernandez is a Belgian politician for the Socialist Party (PS). Her parents fled the Franco regime in Spain in the sixties. She was born in Liège on March 20th, 1972.

Political Career

On October 8th, 2000 Julie Fernandez-Fernandez was elected as councillor for the city of Liege. Her commitment to the city was rewarded in the next municipal elections of 2006 when she doubled her vote. On December 4th, 2006 she became Alderman of the Population and Civil Registry. In the federal elections of 2007, Fernandez-Fernandez received 16,000 preference votes.

In 2008, at the age of thirty-six, she became Secretary of State for persons with disabilities in the Leterme government. On June 7th, 2009 she was elected as Member of the Walloon Parliament. After the elections of June 13th, 2010, she returned to the federal parliament.

Education

Julie Fernandez-Fernandez obtained a Graduate degree in Communications.
