In 1985 he became a member of the City Council of Savonlinna and between 2009-2012 he was the Chairman of the Council. He was elected a Member of Parliament in 1987 and represents the Social Democrats. Between 2003-2007 he was the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group. Jouni Backman was born on the 30th of March 1959 in Savonlinna, Finland. He has been a member of the Finnish parliament since 1987 representing the Social Democrats parliamentary group. He is married and has two children.

Political Career[edit]

Jouni Backman started his political career as a member of the Social Democrats youths in 1984. In 1985 he became a member of the City Council of Savonlinna and between 2009-2012 he was the Chairman of the Council. He was elected a Member of Parliament in 1987 and represents the Social Democrats. Between 2003-2007 he was the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group. In 2002-2003 he was the Finnish Minister of the Environment.

Education[edit]

He studied the Social Sciences in 1978.
