Jerzy Borowczak

Jerzy Borowczak, born on the 15th November 1957 in Białogard, Poland, is a Polish politician and member of Parliament (III, VI and VII cadency).

Political Career

In 1980, together with Bogdan Borusewicz, Bogdan Felskim and Louis Pradzynski Jerzy Borowczak initiated a strike at the Gdansk Shipyard. Following the establishment of the "Solidarity" he was vice-chairman of the union with the SG. In 1989 he returned to work at the Gdańsk Shipyard and became president by the concept of "Solidarity". In 1993 he co-founded the Non-Party Bloc Association for Support of Reforms. In 2000 he was elected deputy to the Parliament in the third term, replacing the deceased Frances Cegielska on behalf of AWS. In 2001, he supported the establishment of the Civic Platform, but after a poor result in the primaries he did not seek re-election. Since 2002 he has been the director of the Solidarity Center Foundation, and since 2006 also a councilor of Gdansk on behalf of the PO (in 2006, he joined the party). He is an Honorary Citizen of the City of Gdansk. In 2010 he took the oath in parliament. In the Sejm he won his seat after Slawomir Nowak was appointed Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President. In the 2011 elections, he successfully applied for re-election.

Education

He graduated from the Technical School of Shipbuilding in Gdynia.
