Ivan Ilchev was born in 1953, in Sofia, to famous historian Ilcho Dimitrov. Ivan Ilchev is the president of Sofia University, one of the most renowned universities in Bulgaria, and a lecturer at many other universities worldwide.

Roles

In 1978, soon after his graduation, he pursued his career as assistant professor at the Sofia University. In 1987, he became an associate professor and in 1995, a professor of modern history of the Balkan Peoples. From 2003 to 2007, he was a dean of the History Department at Sofia University and a member of the Academic Council. In 2007, he became the Rector of Sofia University. He is also an author of numerous articles, review, popular science film scripts and monographs.


Education

Ivan Ilchev graduated from the English High School in Sofia. He then went on to continue his education in the History Department of Sofia University, where he received his M.A. degree in 1978.
