Husein Kavazović was born July 3, 1964, in Jelovče Selu. He is a Bosnian Islamic cleric and the new Bosnian Grand Mufti. He is the successor of Mustafa Cerić.

Education

Mr. Husein Kavazović studied Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University in Cairo from 1985 to 1990.

Roles

Mr. Husein Kavazović is the newly elected Bosnian Grand Mufti since 2012 and serves a term of seven years. He is the 14th Bosnian Grand Mufti since 1882. Kavazović has written and been published for numerous newspapers and magazines of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is one of the founders of the Center for Rehabilitation of addicts in Smolućoj which is near Lukavac. It is the first institution for rehabilitation that has been created to treat drug addicts in the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, he has contributed his time to help renovate and construct more than seventy mosques, as well as help in the construction of the building of the Behram-beg Library in Tuzli. Kavazović has been actively engaged in inter-religious dialogue and fights against prejudice in the public discourse.
