Herbert Behrens is a member of The Left Party and was born on May 30th, 1954, in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Germany. He is a trade union secretary.

Political Career[edit]

Behrens joined the DKP (German Communist Party) in 1970, and remained a member until 1989. In 2005, he was one of the co-founders of WASG, the predecessor to The Left Party. Since 2008, he has been a member of the state executive board of The Left Party in Lower Saxony.

Education[edit]

Behrens has completed an apprenticeship to become a typesetter. Since 1995 he has been self-employed as a journalist and PR worker. In 2002 he volunteered for various trade unions (IG Medien, DGB, services union Verdi). In 2002 he also obtained a degree in Social Sciences, minoring in economics. Moreover, in 2002, he secured a full-time position as a trade union secretary in the fields of media, art and industry.
