About Glencore Xstrata[edit]

Glencore Xstrata is an Anglo-Swiss international company, one of the largest in mining. The company´s main activities are connected with natural resources and mining, but also provides financing, logistics and other services. Glencore Xstrata was born thanks to the merger of Glencore International AG and Xstrata. Its predecessor was the Glencore International AG, that had many production facilities for mining, oil, minerals, coal and natural gas.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

Glencore Xstrata´s goal is to implement sustainability in its activities and also to minimize the negative results on the environment, health of people and community. Glencore tries to produce products that make positive influences on peoples´ lives. The company is also investing in projects for the community in education, healthcare and/or infrastructure.

Glencore Xstrata has 90 offices and facilities in more than 50 countries, meaning the company hires people from all over the world and creates an international environment to get the best working experience. The company is present on every continent of the world. Every worker is equal, nobody is discriminated because his/her religion, origin, culture or age. Glencore hires more than 200,000 employees.

Glencore has its own scholarship program in cooperation with universities from all over the world. The most famous and innovative scholarship of the company is called Masters of Energy Studies. The ethics code of the company is defined on the basis of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization (ILO)´s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. This means that the company respects all of its workers and there is no discrimination within the company.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid[edit]

Glencore Xstrata has its own investment program to help communities. These investments are made in education, infrastructure, training, health, sustainability, and growing development. In the last year alone, Glencore spent 168 million dollars on these investments, from that 62% was spent in Africa and Latin America. The most important running projects are Tackling child malnutrition, HIV/AIDS in Zambia, Fighting cervical cancer in Zambia, Investing in education in Equatorial Guinea. Tackling child malnutrition is a project in Peru, where Glencore gives supplements for young mothers and their children. The HIV/AIDS in Zambia is a project, that helps to prevent the disease in the community in Africa and by the workers of Glencore Xstrata. The Fighting cervical cancer in Zambia is a program, that helps the ill people in Africa. For this program Glencore spent over 250,000 dollars and built two cervical cancer centres in Africa. The last project covers helping education in Equatorial Guinea, by reconstructing the infrastructures of the country and also to give staff, that students need.

Supporting Music and Visual Arts[edit]

There is a festival of music, called “Glencore Xstrata Glencore Greek Fest” in Townsville in Queensland, is the official sponsor of this festival. Glencore helps by 200,000 dollars for Queensland´s Artists Gallery, that is a project that helps the artists of Queensland. The Power of Music Program, brings big names of the music industry for the children, also organizes music tours, and teaching networks. The Song Room develops high-quality music programs for children. Sydney Symphony Regional Tour supports the [ http://www.sydneysymphony.com/ Sydney Symphony Orchestra]. Glencore is also the major sponsor of the Star Struck Event.

Xstrata is cooperating with Science North Production on a project, that gives opportunity for talented film artists in northern Ontario.
