Emir Kir (Charleroi, 17 October 1968) is a politician from Brussel of Turkish origin and is a member of the PS (Parti Socialiste).

Political career[edit]

From 2000-2004 Kir was a council member of the city Sint-Joost-ten-Node. In 2012, Kir became mayor of the city Sint-Joost-ten-Node and was the first person with non-European roots to become mayor in Belgium. From 2004 until 2012 he was State Secretary in the Brussels Region Government. In 2014 he was elected member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives.

Education[edit]

Kir studied Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
