Introduction

Edward Scicluna graduated from the University of Oxford with a Diploma with Distinction in politics and economics; from the University of Malta with a First Class Honours BA Degree in Economics, and from the University of Toronto with a Masters and Doctorate in Economics.

Political career

Prior to his Election to Parliament in March 2013 Hon. Edward Scicluna served as Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the Parliament. He was also the EP’s representative on the European Statistical Advisory Commitee (ESAC). He has formerly served as Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Malta; Chairman of the Malta Council of Economic and Social Development (MCESD), Chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Electoral Commissioner, Central Bank Director, and Board Member of the National Euro Changeover Committee (NECC). In the private sector he has served both as a Consultant as well as Chairman and Director on the Board of various local companies. Internationally, Hon. Scicluna carried out consultancy work for the EU Commission, UNESCO, the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), and was appointed as a Euro expert by the European Commission. Hon. Edward Scicluna was appointed Minister for Finance following his election to Parliament in 2013 from the 5th and the 8th District.
