Political Career
Gakis was elected to the Rhodes municipal council in 2010, having served for 12 years as the secretary for the Coalition of the Left (Synaspismos) Party's prefectural committee for the southern Dodecanese Islands (SE Aegean region).
Gakis was elected to Parliament on the SYRIZA- Unitary Social Front (SYRIZA-USF) Party's ticket during the June 17, 2012 general election, representing the Dodecanese islands district, which includes several of Greece's best-known isles. A graduate of the physics faculty of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Professional Career
He worked for the Hellenic Telecommunication Organization (OTE), Greece's telephony utility, until his retirement in 2010, serving in the city of Rhodes regional branch.
