Denis O'Donovan was born in Bantry, on 23 of July 1955. He is the youngest in a family of 11 children. O'Donovan is a member of Seanad Éireann and part of the Irish Fianna Fáil party.

Denis O'Donovan was elected to the Cork County Council in 1985, where he was re-elected in 1992 and 1999. In 1898 he was nominated by the Taoiseach to the Seanad.
