Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici

Introduction

Hon. Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici was born in Floriana on 17 February 1960. He was educated at St Aloysius College, then De La Salle College and at the University of Malta from where he graduated as Doctor of Laws in 1984. He is today member of the Nationalist Party and member of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee.

Political career

Elected to Parliament since 1998 for the Nationalist Party, in 1998 he was appointed Chairman of Committees and was a permanent member of a number of other committees including the Standing Committee on Privileges and the Standing Committee on the Consideration of Laws. He was a member of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority between October 2001 and March 2003. In April 2003, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs. In March 2004, Hon. Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici was re-confirmed as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs. On being re-elected following the 2008 General Elections he was appointed Minister for Justice and Home Affairs. He is the author of four publications ‘Żewg Minuti Flimkien' (1998), ‘Il-Prinċipji hemm jibqgħu' (2003) , 'Sens u Sustanza' (2008) Il-Politika tas-Sewwa (2013). Hon. Mifsud Bonnici is married to Sandra née Gatt and they have three children: Clement, Anselmo and Gregorio.
