In 1995, Themessl became vice mayor for the city council of Hohenems. After the People's Party victory in the elections in Hohenems in 2000, Themessl his position as Vice Mayor. He then left the city council for the School city council. In 2003 he moved to the Vorarlberg Landtag, where he remained until after the heavy losses of the Freedom Party in the parliamentary elections in 2004. After completing his training, Bernhard Themessl worked as a shipping clerk, as a manager at the firm Metro, and as a shipping manager of A. Bösch transports. Political Career[edit]

Themessl became part of the Austrian Freedom Party in 1975. In 1985, he became part of the representation of the city Hohenems and between 1990 and 1995, he held the post of the chairman of the audit committee of Hohenems. In 1995, Themessl became vice mayor for the city council of Hohenems. After the People's Party victory in the elections in Hohenems in 2000, Themessl his position as Vice Mayor. He then left the city council for the School city council. In 2003 he moved to the Vorarlberg Landtag, where he remained until after the heavy losses of the Freedom Party in the parliamentary elections in 2004. He was later elected as an MP in the National Council.
