Alan Michael Sugar was born on the 24th March 1947 in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Borough_of_Hackney Hackney, East London]. He is an English Business Magnate, media personality and political advisor. He attended Northwold Primary School and then Brooke House Secondary School.  It is estimated that Sugar had a fortune of £700 million in 2011. Since 2005, he has become a household name after starring in the BBC reality show The Apprentice in which the last candidate standing wins a partnership with Lord Sugar, which includes an investment of £250,000 to start their own business.   In July 2007, Lord Sugar sold his Amstrad Empire to Sky.

=== Philanthropic Donations ===
Lord Sugar is a philanthropist for charities such as [http://www.jewishcare.org/ Jewish Care] and [http://www.gosh.org/gen/ Street Hospital]. In 2001, he donated £200,000 to the British Labour Party.  He gave his fee for the Second series of The Apprentice to Great Ormond Street Hospital. From the book that accompanied the second series, he also gave royalties to the charity as well as creating a calendar in order to make even more money for the hospital.  On top of this Sugar has also donated to the hospital his fee from the National Savings & Investments TV adverts and his winnings from the Christmas special of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The Alan Sugar Foundation has donated more than £3 million to charity since it was founded in 1986. The charity focuses upon a number of fields including education and the elderly.

In 2000, he was knighted for his services to business. He also holds two honorary Doctorate of Science Degrees from Brunel University and City University. In 2009 he was appointed as the government’s Enterprise Champion in 2009, and was subsequently made a member of the House of Lords as Baron Sugar of Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney.
