Bohuslav Svoboda was born on February 8, 1944 in Prague. He is a Czech doctor in gynecology and obstetrics field and a politician of the Civic Democratic Party. In the years 2010-2013 he held the post of the Mayor of Prague.

Education

Bohuslav Svoboda graduated from the Medical Faculty of Hygiene, Charles University in Prague. Between 2003-2010 he also headed the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University.

Political career

In 1992-1998, he was the first president of the Czech Medical Chamber. In 1998, unsuccessfully ran for the Senate in Liberec. Between 2003-2010 he headed the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University. In 2010, as leader of the ODS, he was elected in municipal elections to Prague municipal government. After an agreement on a coalition government with the Social Democrats he became the mayor of Prague, the Czech capital. Although he was considered a fair mayor, on 23 May 2013 he was dismissed from the post of Mayor. In the autumn of that year he was elected to Parliament.
